(JANUARY 8, 2005) Cleanup was continuing of the seven locomotives and 12 cars that derailed Saturday at 4:55 a.m. in Nubieber. A Burlington Northern Santa Fe train that included 57 cars and was 3,979 feet in length was diverted for some unknown reason onto a side track at the Nubieber yard and collided with parked train cars. All seven of the locomotives and 11 of the cars that derailed were from the moving train, said Lena Kent, spokeswoman for Burlington Northern in southern California. The train originated in Barstow and was headed to Pasco, Wash., Kent said. It wasn’t known as of Monday how fast the train was traveling as it passed through the Nubieber yard. Although the cars that derailed were empty, about 2,000 gallons of diesel fuel spilled from the derailed locomotives. Two crew members on the moving train sustained cuts and bruises and were treated at Mayers Memorial Hospital in Fall River Mills. Forrest Bartell. Farley was arrested and taken to county jail in Redding where his bail was set at $500,000. Found inside his truck were seven rifles, two shotguns, a grocery bag full of ammunition and food rations, two scanners and a two-way radio, deputies said. Golden Bear Store owner killed

Quicktime • 1:37 Minutes • 12.9 MB

(March 12, 2007) Shasta County sheriff's deputies were called to the residence of Jon and Julie Ford of Round Mountain Monday morning where Jon Ford was found dead just before 11 a.m., said sheriff's Capt. Dave Compomizzo. The Fords own the Golden Bear Store and Deli in Round Mountain and My-T-Fine Foods in Bella Vista. Julie Ford last saw her husband about 7 a.m. Monday and called from the Bella Vista store about 10:30 a.m. to ask her husband's parents, who live about one mile away from the couple's home, to check on Jon when she couldn't reach him at the house by telephone. Jon's father Woody reportedly found his son "unconscious," Compomizzo said. The sheriff's department wouldn't say how Ford died or the murder weapon used, but said the victim sustained "obvious trauma." Click on the photo to access the video.
